Cruiser Shakedown Race 2024

Published 12:51 on 4 May 2024

The first scheduled race of the season was due to be held last Thursday, but was cancelled due to lack of wind. So today's race became the 2024 seasons cruiser shakedown race.

With a High Water time of 08:57 it meant an early First Gun of 09:00, but despite that there was a good turnout of eight boats.

Two of the participating boats even managed to fly their spinnakers.

One of these did decide to experiment how to do so without a standard piece of equipment.. We were told it was due to laziness, not that they'd forgotten to put it back on board after the winter.

Due to very light winds, the initial course of two laps from the Harbour to the North East mark to the Killiney mark and back to the harbour was shortened to one lap.

The wind conditions were such that without a shortened course, it was unlikely all boats would finish in time to return to the harbour. Faoilean measured an average of 5 to 6 knots wind speed along with the excitement of one gust of 10 knots near the end.

And thanks are due to Sean for all the ferrying and the combined (it's a very difficult job) effort of Mark, Helmut, & Rupert in putting up a new windsock.

Overall a lovely gentle start to the 2024 season and thanks to Mark H. the results from today can be found on the website here.
