Introduction to Power Boating

Beginners Level

The aim of this course is to provide a short practical introduction to boat handling and safety on powerboats being used on all Irish waters

No previous experience of power boating is required or assumed

National Powerboat Certificate

Beginners Level 2

To develop the skills and knowledge necessary to safely and effectively skipper an open powerboat by day on inland and coastal waters with which the student is familiar. Typically there is an instructor to trainee ratio of three on this course.

It is assumed that participants hold Irish Sailing's Powerboat Crew Certificate or equivalent experience

Safety Boat Certificate

Intermediate Level

The aim of this course is to introduce participants to the techniques and skills used in powerboats which are:

· Escorting racing fleets of dinghies, windsurfers and canoes

· Providing safety and rescue for training fleets

· Assisting in race management duties.

Participants must hold Irish Sailing's National Powerboat Certificate or equivalent. It is strongly recommended that at least one member of a safety crew should hold a first aid certificate and the Short Range (SRC) VHF Radio Operators Certificate

Advanced Powerboat Certificate

Advanced Level

This course will develop boat handling, seamanship, pilotage and navigation skills up to the standards required to drive a planing powerboat safely by day and night in all coastal waters with which the participant is familiar.Typically there is an instructor to trainee ratio of six on this course.

Participants must hold the ISA National Powerboat Certificate or equivalent.It is strongly recommended that at least one member of a safety crew should hold a first aid certificate and the Short Range (SRC) VHF Radio Operators Certificate
