Mexican Food Night

Last weekend was a busy weekend in the Club and it kicked off on the Friday night with the second in our series of International Food nights.

This series (the brainchild of Fiona) is to celebrate the number of nationalities that we now have in our Club and to give us all a chance to sample their favourite foods from their home-country.

This weekend it was Mexican Food Night. This was delivered by Claudia with the help of her elves Fiona, Tom and Daniella.

Claudia explained that what we would be getting would be food that would be prepared and eaten in a typical Mexican home rather than what we might find in a Mexican restaurant, where recipes would be significantly altered for tourist or international tastes. So we were in for a truly authentic experience.

Claudia not only showed us how to cook the various dish with handy tricks, she also gave us plenty of tips as to where we could easily access the ingredients for each of the recipes demonstrated.

When the food started to flow, there was dish after dish, a variety of salsa, guacamole, nachos with dips, pulled pork, re-fried black bean, jalapeƱo stuffed with haloumi cheese a magnificent prawn dish and pulled pork to die for. And just when we thought we were finished, the burritos arrived!

The night was billed as a demo and tasting so the lucky 27 who managed to secure tickets were expecting that they should eat before arrival as there would be small tasting portions. However, we lost count of the number of dishes each more tasty than next. So while there was endless food nobody could resist trying everything. In the end it felt like wed had our enormous Christmas day dinner.

It's hard to imagine the amount of work that must have gone into the preparation of this feast. There was a massive round of applause for Claudia and her elves.

As Claudia and Shu our first two hosts posed for a photo at the end of the night under the Mexican and Chinese flags, we could see that everybody in the Clubhouse wanted to see these International Food nights turn into a great new tradition

The next international night will be the Helmuts Austrian Night. No doubt it too will be booked out so get in early for your tickets.
