It is with sadness that we hear of the death on Saturday afternoon of Peggie Steele. Peggie has been a Life Member of Bray Sailing Club. Newer members will not know Peggie. Although she was not a sailor herself, Peggie was very actively involved in Junior Training in the 1960s and 1970s as a parent of two Juniors - Christian and Barry. Her son Christian sailed competitively in Bray SC up to the early 2000s and was our Vice Commodore in 1996 and 1997.
Despite not being a sailor herself, Peggie, a young widow and mother of two, very generously took out a Life Membership in Bray Sailing Club. (It was the Life Memberships of about 40 people that allowed the acquisition of the site and the construction of our current Clubhouse).
Peggie was a PE Teacher and trained Teachers in PE in Carysfort. She also taught swimming in The Cove to a couple of generations of Bray children (including at least one former Commodore).
Peggie lived to the good age of 98. She was a delight to meet and such an jolly upbeat positive bundle of energy right up to her last years. She will be greatly missed and may she rest in peace.
Condolences to Christian and Barry and all the Steele family.
