Return to Sailing

Bray SC launches details of "Return to Sailing" plan - click the heading above to read full article

Wednesday, May 27, 2020

As part of our plan to return to sailing in a safe manner, the committee is making arrangements to have supervised dinghy sailing (i.e. not racing) available for a number of dates during Phases 2 and 3 (until 20th July). Plans for future phases will follow in due course, and will depend on further guidance from the government, HSE, and Irish Sailing.

Details are as follows:

a)      Sailing will take place on specified Saturdays, Sundays, and suitable week day evenings.

b)      Sailing and boat storage will be available to fully paid up members for 2020 only - Phase 2 limited to ten people.

c)       You must use your own boat – no club boats will be permitted.

d)      Sailing is open to Single Handers and Double Handers (from the same family) who live within 20 Km of the club (as per government travel guidelines).

e)      You must be able to self-launch and self-retrieve, and right the boat unaided in the event of a capsize.

f)       To facilitate social distancing while rigging, launching, and retrieving, where possible all boats should launch from the beach rather than the slipway.

g)      The clubhouse, changing rooms and showers will remain closed so you must arrive at the harbour already changed. Limited toilet facilities will be available.

h)      Juniors who wish to sail single-handed must have achieved their Level 3 or above. In a double-handed boat with two juniors, at least one must have achieved their Level 3, and we would request that the other will either have achieved their Level 2, or be experienced enough that they are close to achieving it.

i)        All activity will be weather dependent with the bar set somewhat lower than normal – as a rule of thumb, sailing will not take place if the wind speed exceeds 15 knots.

j)        The final decision as to whether sailing will take place or not will be made by the Safety Boat Supervisor on the day.

k)      To ensure an adequate sailor:safety boat ratio, we are asking you to book in advance on EventBrite (there will be no cost). This will also mean that we have a record of who took part on a particular day, should contact tracing be required.  This is the link to book a slot:  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/bsc-supervised-sailing-phase-2-tickets-108137680714
