Contact Tracing procedures

The Club is required to maintain attendance and participation records for contact tracing purposes and an electronic method (rather than pen and paper) is advised.

We have set up a “BSC club contacts” WhatsApp group and we are asking all members who attend the club for any reason (sailing, social event, workparty, meeting, etc.) to register on this WhatsApp group by contacting one of the admins.


We recommend you mute notifications on this group permanently.

How will this work?

Each Skipper (cruiser/dinghy and safety boat) intending to race at the club must send a message with the names of crew members to the group. 

A short message like “Saturday Racing, Flying Fish, Patrick Murphy, Mick Wallace” or “Boat Pen  Saturday afternoon, Ben Dunne” will suffice.

Other members attending the club for a meeting, workparty, social event, etc. must also register their attendance, together with any family members with them.  

The Sailing Secretary Paddy Lombard will create a spreadsheet of attendance which will be shared with the health authorities only in the event of a Covid-19 infection. We also encourage all members to download the HSE COVID-19 contact tracing app.

Who must send notificiation messages:

There are some recurring groups such as Skill Build, Junior Training, and the Coffee Mornings – they are either constant or we have already attendance records. If you are taking part in these activities you do not have to send a message.

For any other activities where you are at the club for more than 15 minutes you must send a message (can be one message per crew/group) with all the names to the WhatsApp group.

As a Club we are required and expected to keep proper tracking records – so please help us to full fill this requirement.

"Back to Sailing" Dinghy Regatta - Saturday 25th July 2020

Following the easing of restrictions, Bray Sailing Club are delighted to announce their first event of 2020. The "Back to Sailing" dinghy regatta will take place on Saturday 25th July 2020 and is open to all club members with their own boats with a PY of less than 1300. Club boats will not be available for use at this event. 

The Notice of Race is attached HERE and registration is now open via the "Payments" link on the club website.

Junior Committee 2020


While we are under no illusion of the current situation with regards to Covid-19, we are continuing to work on a number of eventualities so we can get something out of the 2020 season. One thing we want to make sure of is that we are ready to go whenever it is safe to do so!

With this in mind, we are now seeking applications for our Junior Committee 2020.

Being part of the Junior Committee is a fantastic opportunity for you to experience what it is like to represent your fellow Junior members and to provide a voice for your peers. We want to continue to build on the fantastic success of our Junior Committee from 2019 who, among other things, achieved the following:
  • Leading our Turn the Tide on Plastics campaign which resulted in Bray Sailing Club being presented with the Youth Group Award at the Wicklow Tidy Towns Awards ceremony and the Irish Sailing Sustainability Award at the annual Irish Sailing Awards
  • The idea for Out of Season Pico Club activities which have been an overwhelming success
  • Presentation to the former Cathaoirleach of Bray Municipal District Council, Steven Matthews TD.

Assistant Instructors for 2020

With this in mind, we are now seeking applications for Assistant Instructors 2020. 

Becoming an Assistant Instructor is usually the first step along your journey to becoming an Instructor. It is a great way to spend your summers with your friends learning and enhancing your technical sailing skills as well as your teaching skills.

In order to become an Assistant Instructor you must:
  • Be at least 15 years old
  • Hold a level 4 certificate (we are happy to accept applications from those who have just entered level 4 also)
  • If 16 years or over; Required to have Garda Vetting through Irish Sailing
  • If 16 years or over; Required to complete Tusla's Children First eLearning programme

Please note, we are unlikely to be in touch to confirm what weeks you have been assigned until we have a clearer overview of what is going to happen this summer.

We're hiring!

Would you like to work in one of the most successful training centres in the country, and the winner of the Volvo Irish Sailing Training Centre of the Year award in 2018?  If so, read on.....

Bray Sailing Club  today announced the start of their recruitment campaign for the 2020 summer season. We are again planning to run a busy ten week Junior Training programme covering all aspects of Irish Sailing's Small Boat Sailing Scheme, and are now seeking applications from suitably qualified instructors.

Successful applicants will be fully qualified before the programme starts (we welcome applications from those who have not yet qualified but expect to do so by June 2020) . You will be enthusiastic, and you  will demonstrate signs of natural leadership. We expect our instructors to act as role models to over 150 juniors and to instil a love for getting wet, having fun, and supporting their friends, all in a safe, welcoming, fun, and inclusive environment.

As well as being involved in our Junior Training programme, there will also be opportunities to join our inclusion training and to join the instructor team looking after new adult members.

Please note that the latest date for receipt of applications is 5th January 2020. You may return your application form by email, post, or hand deliver it to the club. Interviews will be held on Saturday 25th January 2020.

Women at the Helm event 2019 in Dun Laoghaire

Have you registered yet for the inaugural Irish Sailing Pathfinder Women at the Helm regatta ?

Around the country, women have been racing against each other for decades but this is the first time a regatta will be held at a national level, and the first time that clubs will compete against each other. The Irish Sailing Pathfinder Women at the Helm regatta is an opportunity for women to set a new goal for themselves or to simply enjoy the fun of sailing together and encourage a move from shore to boat, crew to helm or club to regional event. Female helms currently stand out from the crowd, let’s change that and encourage women to take the helm.

All welcome

We aim to include all skill levels and interests with PY Dinghy Racing and ECHO Handicap Keelboat Racing, encourage teenage participation at a time when many young sailors are dropping out of sport, put on some non-racing options through the Cruising Association of Ireland (CAI), whilst all the while keeping a close eye on our environmental impact.

The event is open to all sailors aged 16+ and on into the 60+ ‘Silver Sailors’. All must have a woman as helm. Men are very welcome, but crew must be at least 50% female (including helm).

In addition, we have a goal of 50% female race officials and organisers. So if you’re not so sure about competing but would like to get involved with the race officials then please get in touch to talk about training opportunities.


Among the prizes is the newly created Irish Sailing Perpetual Club Team Prize, the only Irish Sailing official interclub award, which is open to all members of Irish Sailing Affiliated Clubs that enter a team of three or more boats of any mix of class.

New payments system has gone live!

An easier way to manage your payments to the club

The increasing number of financial transactions (membership fees, course fees, etc.) being handled by the club has started to place an enormous administrative burden on a small group of volunteers and, combined with the increasing reluctance of banks to handle cash and cheque lodgements, has encouraged us to move to an online payments system. 

You will find a "Payments" link on the club's homepage which will take you to a secure site which will handle all of our payments in the future. For now, you can book and pay for all Junior Training courses, reserve and pay for places at next month's sailing supper, and pay for cadet memberships. Note that parents who are paying for a cadet membership  should first register themselves as a parent/guardian and then proceed to add their child as a cadet member.

Say hello to your Junior Committee for 2019!
This is a brand new initiative in Bray Sailing Club this year with our Junior Committee being the “voice” of Juniors in the sailing club. Each level is represented on the committee. 
We had our first meeting today where we discussed some exciting ideas for the club and the Juniors and how we are going to #turnthetideonplastics this year!
Our Junior Committee members are as follows:
• Start Sailing: Kate Grist & Katie-Rose O’Bric (absent from photo). 
• Basic Skills: Rory Keane, Maya Khan & Isobel Moran. 
• Improving Skills: Lucy Bampton, Elodie Ducorroy, Emma Ruddock & Emily Moran.

Pico Club 2019 Information

Pico Club 2019 Information

Hi all,

I hope you're all keeping well and looking forward to the sailing season kicking off as much as I am! This message serves to provide information for the upcoming season of Pico Club, and in particular Pico Club Race Coaching. 

Just a gentle reminder, to participate in Pico Club, you must be a fully paid up club member! If you haven't renewed your membership yet, make sure to do so before next week. Details on how to do this can be found in the membership section. Any questions, send me a message or email!

Pico Club
Regular Pico Club will run as normal for the coming season, with 20 sessions scheduled from May through to the end of September. Please make sure to arrive down an hour before the advertised time to get rigged and changed!

Pico Club Race Coaching
Last year, we brought in Race Coaching for our older, more advanced sailors and it seemed to work well. This year, we'd like to take it a step further and assign each week of Pico Club to a particular racing topic or skill, while also introducing the Pico Club Race Series.

There are 5 race days as part of the Pico Club Race Series. On these days, Juniors will come down as normal for Pico Club, but instead of a session on an aspect of racing, there will be races taking place that count towards an overall series. These races will not impact regular Pico Club, which will continue as normal.

After each race day, we will have a BBQ in the clubhouse for racers and regular Pico Club sailors, which parents and other family members are welcome to attend. There will be prizes issued for that day of racing. 

At the end of the season, results from all of the races will be pooled together to have an overall winner of the Pico Club Race Series.
The dates for the Pico Club Race Series are as follows:
 - Sunday 26th May (FG 1600)
 - Sunday 23rd June (FG 1430)
 - Sunday 21st July (FG 1330)
 - Sunday 18th August (FG 1200)
 - Sunday 15th September (FG 1100)

If you cannot make some days, do not worry! There will be prizes issued at the end of each race day and there will be discards too - so you could still be in with a chance of winning the overall prize!

Helmsman's Championships to be revived in 2018

After a gap of 15 years, the Junior and Senior Helmsman's Championships are being revived in Bray SC this year. An invited group of six sailors will contest each event, with the Junior event scheduled for 1300hrs on Saturday 13th October, and the Senior event starting at 1345hrs the following day.
